Torchlight, originally releasing for the PC in 2009, is one of the few titles that seemed to come from nowhere and become fairly popular amongst players. Many refer to the game as ‘Diablo-like”, with the dungeon based, loot-collecting gameplay. With the 360 version of the game around the corner, PS3 gamers are asking the question: When will we be getting our hands on this game?
Well, as the title hinted at, it won’t be coming to PSN anytime soon. At CES this week, the 360 version of the game was announced without any mention as to the PS3 counterpart. The odds only got worse when Runic Games, the developers for Torchlight, responded to a question on their official forums concerning the game coming to PSN:
No PS3 plans to speak of. Microsoft is acting as the publisher on this one. And given how much work it was to get one console game done, I’m a little relieved we didn’t attempt both platforms at once anyway
Although this confirms that the PlayStation 3 won’t be getting a taste of this title in the near future, there is still hope. If you look at the last clause of the developer’s statement, they aren’t saying that they’re relived they didn’t do both. Rather, they’re saying they’re relieved that they didn’t do them both at once. While that could very well be a bad play of words, it could also be a hint that they will be making a version for the PS3 in the future.
We’ll keep you up to date on any information regarding this game’s presence on the PS3 as it surfaces.
