Twisted Metal movie deal in the works

There may not be much of a future on the horizon for the Twisted Metal franchise in the video game industry, but Hollywood has other plans. It seems that Sony Pictures has contracted Brian Taylor, co-director of the upcoming Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, for a 7-figure deal to write and direct a live-action adaptation of the apocalyptic vehicle royal rumble series.

The movie will thankfully contain many elements from the games, including weaponized and armor outfitted cars battling it out, the antagonist Calypso being the ring leader of the whole contest, Sweet Tooth as one of the combatants, as well as Calypso granting a single wish to the sole survivor. Hopefully more details will surface as time goes by and will reveal just how faithful the adaptation will be.

Video game films don’t exactly have the best track record, but perhaps an explosion crazy, adrenaline filled action film is just what the people need. Twisted Metal could present a decent story, but nothing to deep, allowing the special effects and possibly character focused development to sink in. What do you think?
