A highly anticipated Xbox game is no longer coming to the PS5 as Microsoft makes a U-turn towards console exclusivity. Gears of War: E-Day, which was recently rated for the PS5 and even received retailer listings, was pulled at the last-minute as part of new CEO Asha Sharma’s attempts to salvage Xbox.

Xbox’s decision to cancel Gears of War: E-Day PS5 threw game retailers off

During yesterday’s Xbox Games Showcase, Microsoft revealed that it will be returning to console exclusivity on a case-by-case basis. As a result of this decision, both Gears of War E-Day and InXile Entertainment’s Clockwork Revolution will remain permanently exclusive to Xbox consoles and PC.

It’s unclear how Microsoft will proceed in the future, as the company’s position has flip-flopped too many times to count in recent years. But for now, we know that alongside Xbox Studios’ multiplayer games, the following titles are confirmed for the PS5:

  • Spyro: A Realm Beyond
  • Senua, the next game in the Hellblade universe, coming 2027
  • State of Decay 3, due 2027
  • Minecraft Dungeons 2
  • Halo: Campaign Evolved
  • Fable, now coming February 23, 2027

From the list above, Spyro and Senua stand out as newly-announced single-player games that are getting multiplatform releases. However, both games have history on PlayStation platforms, so we’ll see how Microsoft’s new direction pans out in the future.
