PS4 services and features shutting down

Sony has announced that it’s soon shutting down a third-party PS4 service that many didn’t know existed. Trend Micro safety service is a remnant of a good time when Sony allowed web browsing on its consoles. It was first introduced on the PS3, followed by the PS4.

PS4 ‘Trend Micro’ browser service shutting down, but what is it?

Trend Micro provided browser safety services for PS3 and PS4, which prevented kids from accessing unsuitable websites. There was also an adult version of Trend Micro that blocked fraudulent or unsafe websites.

Trend Micro was free on the PS3… at least it was for quite a while. On the PS4, however, it cost a pretty penny. You could purchase the service via the PS Store.

Frankly, I’m surprised it still exists. I just looked up Trend Micro on the PS Store and only found one live listing on a South American store page, where it costs USD 19.99. However, that listing will soon be taken down, as Sony has announced that PS4 users will no longer be able to purchase the service starting August 25, 2026.

Trend Micro Kids Safety and Web Security services for PS4 will cease to exist on August 25, 2027.
