A cult classic from the PlayStation 1 days has gotten a new HD remaster, and it’s out now. Better yet, the game has also debuted with a discount for those with PlayStation Plus.

70’s Robot Anime Geppy-X is a throwback to a classic era, and out now

The PlayStation 1 mecha shoot ’em up 70s-style Robot Anime Geppy-X is officially out now on the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC on July 16, 2026. The game retails for $39.99 on the PS Store, but those with PlayStation Plus can pick it up now for 10% off at $35.99.

The new release brings the game stateside for the first time, as Geppy-X was originally only released in Japan in 1999. The game has become a cult classic over the years for its art style and music. Inspired heavily by the world of 70s anime and featuring songs from a variety of famous anime artists, Geppy-X recreated the structure of classic anime broadcasts of old days, complete with time signals, opening themes, episodes, commercial breaks, and over 8,000 hand-drawn animation frames.

The new HD release of Geppy-X will feature a brand new HD look for the game, as well as some modern upscaling techniques to help enhance the clarity of the game. The animation of the in-game videos have also been restored to its original 24 frames per second, and much more.

More features for the game include:

  • 70s-style super robot anime experience
  • Arcade-style 2D side-scrolling shooter
  • Real-time transforming mech system
  • Three distinct combat styles
  • Mid-game mech evolution
  • Over 8,000 hand-drawn animation frames
  • Fully restored 24fps animation
  • HD remaster from original master tapes
  • Originally Japan-exclusive 1999 cult classic
