Iron Gate and Coffee Stain
One of the biggest and most beloved survival games of recent years on PC has finally launched on the PlayStation 5 today. After a long wait, Valheim 1.0 has arrived on September 9, 2026, and is available on the PlayStation Store for $29.99. The game will debut on PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 alongside the full 1.0 rollout for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
Valheim version 1.0 introduces the eighth and last planned biome to gamers: The Deep North. This one is a frozen, brutal landscape filled with ancient ruins and new creatures. The version offers players new weapons, building pieces, and a craftable shovel used for clearing deep snow. Plus, it has full cross-platform multiplayer support enabled across PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC from Day 1, so players don’t have to wait to cross-play!

What is new in Valheim 1.0
According to the Valheim 1.0 official website, this version will add new content to players’ worlds, even if those worlds were created before the update. While biome generation will only work properly on areas that have not yet been explored, players’ old saves will still be where they last left them.
This one also features “a whole bunch” of achievements. Additionally, version 1.0 includes a system that prevents achievements from unlocking if a player has cheats enabled, though some devcommands, like “freefly”, are exceptions. Per the website, “The achievement system will begin to track statistics from the moment you download the 1.0 version.”
The website also noted that, due to a lack of official mod support, the functionality of mods with the release of 1.0 cannot be guaranteed.
While the developers worked on making the game run more smoothly, some of the optimizations that make it into this version include “decreasing the microstutters that occur when loading new zones in and out of memory, faster saving,” as well as numerous other minor optimizations here and there.
Now that Valheim 1.0 is out, players can purchase it on Steam for Windows, Linux, and Mac; in the Mac App Store for Mac; in the Humble Store for Windows, Linux, and Mac; and in the Microsoft Store for Windows.
