What do critics love most about this acclaimed PS5 Metroidvania?
Critics have admired how Silver Pines offers an immersive experience by combining survival horror elements with 2D Metroidvania gameplay. They have also praised the Twin Peaks-inspired mystery, atmospheric world, and compelling gameplay.
Drawing parallels with horror classics like Silent Hill, Marcus Kenneth of CGM wrote, “It’s a love letter to Silent Hill and Twin Peaks.” Kenneth added, “Silver Pines is a masterpiece, blending gorgeous animation, a compelling mystery and rewarding exploration that makes its haunting town hard to leave.”
Ben Rayner of Radio Times lauded the game’s eerie aesthetics and the “feeling of unease and uncertainty around the town” while highlighting the brilliant fusion of “3D and 2D graphics to create character models that are stark shapes and colours, forming the resemblance of a human figure.”
“Silver Pines not only takes inspiration from some of the greatest psychological horror fixtures of the past few decades, it outright drowns itself in them,” wrote Stephanie Watel of DualShockers.
Richard Seagrave of GameSpew admired the game’s haunting atmosphere “that will quickly get its hooks in you and not let go.” Max Williams of GamesRadar wrote that besides its breathtaking visuals, the game has also got “excellent pacing across both its narrative and how you progress through its haunting, dense world.”
Silver Pines releases on October 8, 2026, for PlayStation 5, alongside PC.
