Cate Blanchett and Hideo Kojima‘s meeting has caught Metal Gear Solid fans’ attention. Her visit has reignited speculation that she could play one of the game series’ most iconic characters.
Kojima, the creator of Metal Gear Solid, shared three photos with the Oscar-winning actress on X. He wrote in Japanese, “With Cate Blanchett,” and tagged Dirty Films, the production company co-founded by Blanchett and Andrew Upton. The post didn’t announce a collaboration, but it renewed interest in fan casting that dates back years.
Cate Blanchett’s resemblance to The Boss has been a fan-favorite talking point for years
Fans have discussed Blanchett as a possible choice for The Boss since at least January 2007. The character appears in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater as a legendary soldier and mentor to Naked Snake. Her short, light hair, sharp features, and serious presence have led fans to compare her with Blanchett.
However, Blanchett was not the confirmed inspiration for The Boss’s appearance. Kojima has identified British actress Charlotte Rampling as the model for the character’s look. Even so, fans continue imagining Blanchett playing The Boss because of their perceived similarities. The long-running fan casting does not mean she has been approached for the role.
Interest in the character has also continued with the release of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater in August 2025. The remake brought the 2004 game to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, introducing its story to a new generation of players.
The new photos have also raised questions about a possible connection between Blanchett and Kojima’s future projects. However, neither has announced a Metal Gear Solid collaboration, and the post does not confirm any casting plans. For now, Blanchett’s potential involvement remains a fan theory rather than an official development.
