The awaited God of War game’s PS5 launch has been pushed back. The action-packed title was announced earlier this year during the State of Play broadcast.
Santa Monica Studio‘s official account recently revealed a message with an “update regarding God of War Laufey’s release date.” The developer has delayed the game, and it won’t come out on February 16, 2027. Instead, Laufey will now release on May 20, 2027.
The game will feature a female protagonist, Faye, instead of Kratos, the popular character fans have embraced for years.
Why God of War Laufey’s release has moved to May 2027?
Santa Monica’s latest message has clearly revealed that the game has been delayed to “make an extraordinary experience worthy of the passion and dedication” of the fans. Hence, the studio decided to move the PlayStation 5 exclusive to May.
The studio has assured avid fans that it will “make the most of each moment until” the launch “by putting in the finishing touches and pushing the game to its fullest potential.” More updates are expected soon ahead of the release.
God of War Laufey will see Faye’s journey through the afterlife of the gods, Everywhen. It’s a place where gods from across mythology fight for the ultimate power. The official description reads, “Awakening unexpectedly in a strange land after her death, Faye discovers the plans she put in place to protect Kratos and Atreus in her absence are now at risk.”
Laufey is directed by Ariel Lawrence. The story will see Deborah Ann Woll reprising her role as Faye after God of War Ragnarök. Other acclaimed actors, including Jack Quaid and Perlina Lau, will play crucial characters. They will assist Faye on her quest, where she also gets to wield legendary weapons during combat.
