Respawn Entertainment created; EA gains publishing rights

It hasn’t taken long for former founders of Infinity Ward, Jason West and Vince Zampella to find a new home to rest their heads. According to a financial press release sent out just moments ago, West and Zampella have formed their own independent studio — Respawn Entertainment.

As rumored before, the duo have also extended exclusive publishing rights world wide to Electronic Arts. This so happens to be one of the main claims Activision has against the two as to why the termination of their previous position was to take place.

“Respawn Entertainment marks a fresh start for Jason and me,” said Vince Zampella, General Manager of Respawn Entertainment. “For the past decade we led a great development team and poured our hearts into creating an epic game franchise. We’re very proud of what we built – and proud that so many millions of fans enjoyed those games. Today we hope to do it all over again — open a new studio, hire a great team, and create brand new games with a new partner, EA.”

“We’re excited,” added Jason West, President of Respawn Entertainment. “Now that the team is in control of the games and brands, we can ensure that the fans are treated as well as they deserve.”

Not only will this create new independent properties, but it’ll be IPs from the minds that created Call of Duty. Only good things should come from this as the past these two present are more than enough to get excited about for the future.

We’re excited to see what the two have in store.

Haha, love the company name. Clever :p EA doesn’t sound nearly as bad as Activision and I do own more EA games!… well 0 Activision games actually. Hopefully they don’t get hit bad by the lawsuit now, wherever that is now.

  5. Good stuff, you can pretty much guarantee that EA will be more gentle with the reins, and not force out a new game every 12 months.

  6. @1 — Did you even read the article? Lol. Respawn Entertainment was formed by the founders of IW. EA is just their publishers.

  7. Hopefully we can see something good out of this, never liked EA much though except for BattleField games.

  8. I think its a good move for their carears as cod is getting stale. a new ip is what the doctor ordered. as long as they keep making great games it doesnt matter if its EA. at least that means it will be multiplatform on the ps3

  9. i hope they come out with some decent games, and EA is no good than Activision. So its just matter of time that they will be screwed by EA too.

They own the IP this time though. So…unlike how they created Medal of Honour for EA and Call of Duty for Activision, this time their new franchise is theirs.

  11. Just as I expected, how awesome.

  12. @Nick: i really dont care for the IW guys either lol

and excuse me my good sir!

and oh yesm EA is soooooooo much better than Activision /sarcasm (to a point)

    >_>

Respawn Entertainment is the new studio made by the other dudes who left Activision and Infinityward.. The guys of Infinityward left EA first after making Medal Of Honor 1. and than joined together made their team Infinityward, joined Activision started making a new FPS called Call of duty. now things went wrong and they’ve go back to EA and respawn there making their new team Respawn Entertainment. I’m pretty sure their next game will be a lot like Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare or something like Modern Wafare + Battlefield + Medal of Honor = EPIC WIN.
