Blur can receive DLC “on the fly”

Bizarre Creation’s Gareth Wilson recently spoke to VG247 about the company’s upcoming title Blur and the capability of releasing DLC “on the fly.” Apparently, Blur is designed in such a way that allows for the development team to change the game itself and releases downloadable content to users without the use of the PSN or XBLM.

“We’ll definitely be releasing some DLC stuff,” he said. “One of the cool techie things that we have in this game is that we have a content server that you connect to when you boot up the game. So we can change playlists and game modes and add and remove stuff without actually doing an official DLC type downloadable pack over PSN or Xbox Live.

“So we can give the community what it wants – adding things to the game on the fly at any time we want. And we can rebalance the game at any time. So we almost have this World of Warcraft-style ability to tune the game once it’s been launched.

“There is also a whole custom race section of the game where we give the players all of the controls that we have to the player.”

Bizarre Creations’ upcoming racer Blur is just finishing up its exclusive beta on Xbox Live and is scheduled for release near the end of May.

  1. Take notes all you Dev’s out there and learn a few thing from games like Blur.

  2. “World of Warcraft-style ability to tune the game once it’s been launched.”

It took Blizzard a few years to perfect on-the-fly “tuning”

  3. wow thats quite nice! like fred says, other devs should take note of this method

  4. That’s pretty cool.

  5. Let’s see…Do I…
Try and impress people with a new patching feature and hope they’ll buy the game?
    OR
Continue to make 15 bucks a pop off of DLC?
This idea sounds great, but good luck getting the large devs to go for this.

  6. no matter what they come up with they are not going to please PS3 fans by isolating us from Blur Beta. So for the only racing game i buy this year will be GT5, if it comes out this year.

Really now.. it’s a beta. Be pissed if they exclude the PS3 from a demo, not from a beta which is meant for testing purposes and for the developer to try and improve the game’s features or fix any glitches based on community feedback.
