THQ unsure of how to price future motion titles

Nintendo obviously hit a gold mine with the release of its Wii console and developers started releasing titles at a $49.99 price point in comparison to those marked at $59.99 for the other next generation consoles. This is something THQ is struggling with in deciding how to price future titles released for PlayStation Move and Project Natal.

In a recent financial call CEO Brian Farrell was questioned about this price point situation:

“Retail pricing is going to be very interesting [for PlayStation Move and Project Natal],” said Farrell. “We have not announced that. In fact, we’re still deliberating internally on that and we’re going to watch and look at what’s going on in the market for the next several months, and we may or may not even announce those launch prices until much closer to launch.”

Though I never thought this was going to be a complicated situation for the development teams, apparently it is. I think if the title in question is a full, proper release with the ability to play the game with standard and move controls then a $59.99 tag is appropriate. However if the company is releasing just a plain motion control title, then $49.99 has to be the way to go.

  1. I think if it”s a full game that happens to use motion controls, it should be $59.99. If it’s shovelware-ish, then $49.99

Terrific work! This is the type of information that should be shared around the web. Shame on the search engines for not positioning this post higher!
