Deus-Ex to feature 200,000+ lines of dialogue

We’ve heard similar claims before, a dialog number that has been recanted in the past or a script page length that just isn’t the correct amount. However, Eidos Montreal is claiming that its upcoming title Deus-Ex: Human Revolution is going to hold over 200,000 lines of recorded dialogue.

“The voice recording, with all the characters we have in the game, is just amazing,” producer David Anfossi told VideoGamer.com at E3. “We have more than… I think it’s more than 200,000 lines.”

Now, this can either be a very good thing or it could create a problem with many gamers. If Eidos isn’t careful with the dialogue, DE:HR could result in being a lengthy bore-fest that doesn’t do that job in captivating its audience to care about the actual story and proceedings within it. However, if the original Deus-Ex is anything to go by, this should become an instant cult classic.

“There’s no magic recipe,” said Dugas. “The only thing we have is a lead writer who’s very dedicated to her job, and she’s working damn hard. She reviews everything and she’s nit-picky.”

For fans of the series, I hope he’s right that the team is trying to live up to the expectations the previous titles have created for the team. How many of you are excited for this sequel?

  1. I didn’t even play the first one but I’m keeping this one on my radar for now. I love involving stories and if Eidos look like they are going to bring it with Deus-Ex then I will buy it.

  2. Hopefully it’s not too lengthy on the cutscenes. What I would like to see is enemies that never repeat the same two lines of dialog.
