BioWare confirms exclusive intro content for PS3 Mass Effect 2

Those of you concerned by the difficulty of jumping into a franchise on its second iteration without fully understanding the story can rest easy. Today, BioWare’s Ray Muzyka confirmed that the PlayStation 3 format will receive exclusive introductory levels into the Mass Effect franchise before Mass Effect 2 kicks off where it did on the 360. This is great news as it will help ease gamers into the franchise with little to no trouble.

On top of this, PlayStation 3 owners will receive all of the downloadable content to date, free of charge, on the disc upon purchasing it at retail. This is obviously one of the many benefits of Blurays larger disc capacity.

“One of the things we’re doing is that we’re bringing a lot of the post-release downloadable content and will integrate it into the experience, so that PS3 fans can check that out and play it,” he said. “We’re making sure there’s a really seamless introduction to the world of Mass Effect, for players that haven’t experienced it before.

“So even though it’s Mass Effect 2 specifically, we’re making sured there’s a nice introduction experience, that provides the back-story and the things that have happened up to that point in the universe, and makes it a really seamless introduction.”

He added: “We haven’t revealed what that is yet. It’ll be something that provides a good introduction and provides a lot of the back-story and introduces you well to the story-arc, and kind of makes you feel like you’re part of it all. And then you can jump right into the action in Mass Effect 2.”

Are you anticipating this title at a whole new level or are you just going to casually pick it up whenever you can? Mass Effect 2 is a great game and definitely is a can’t miss title of this generation. I recommend everyone check it out.

  1. Wait, so this means that Mass Effect 1 is basically included?

  2. @Sir Rickard

To an extent the way its looking, not the actual game, just a few levels so people don’t go in clueless of what happened in the first. Pretty much what I thought they’d do. Quite happy to see they’re adding DLC to date free though.

  3. You guys shouldn’t be so worried about that, I played both games and if you can get at least the PC version cool because the game is awesome but you don’t really need it in oder to play the second. I even used the save game thing that brings all of the choices made in the first to the second but it din’t make much difference anyways. I will be getting the ME2 for PS3 as well, like I said in another post I didn’t like much just the disc changing and I’m hoping the PS3 version will be a single BD disc.

  4. Dunno if my laptop can run it. It says I need at least 2.4 GHz processor. I’ve got # Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 / 2.2 GHz . I guess I can’t :/.

  5. well i already hawe ME2 i love it, and since steam and playing with a mouse and keyboard sucks, i wont hesitate re buying it for the ps3

  6. i own it for the xbox but i dont have xbox live so i will probably re-buy it for the PS3 so i can get the free DLCs

@Reigen…there are drivers out so you can use the PS3 controller on the PC or a wired 360 controller. your choice 😉

  8. I very recently finished Mass Effect 2 on PC, don’t think I’ll be picking this up 🙁 hadn’t played ME1 prior to it but had read up a lot on the backstory.

  9. well, I already finished ME1(with the paragon ending) on my 360 before it got broken, so getting ME2 is no problem for me XD

  10. Well, it’s good that the PS3 version will let new players experience at least something of the first game. Mass Effect 2 could probably stand on it’s own for some people, but those who love a good story would miss out not having played the first game. Hopefully, this content will alleviate this somewhat.
