Sony ‘taking necessary action’ against pirating

When you look at some of the most high profiled releases this console generation, you notice along with the commercial success of these titles, you can also find the pirating success online as well. You only need to look at the upcoming release of Halo: Reach to really get a sense of how many people are willing to go out of their way to play a title not only early, but illegally. The same was also done for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 last year as well.

Thankfully, for both the developers and publishers of independent property and content, Sony has always taken a strong stance with the PlayStation 3 in protecting those parties and its content. The recent events resulting in the termination of all PSJailbreak technology is something Sony should be proud of and should continue to fight as more and more individuals try and put one over on the console giant.

Earlier this morning, Sony commented to CVG that they’re willing to take ‘necessary action’ when it comes to stopping pirates in this industry.

Since this is an overall security related issue, we will not be providing further commentary with regards to this case; however, as we always have we will continue to take necessary actions from both hardware and software to protect the intellectual property of the content offered on the PS3 system.”

There isn’t much else to say, but we congratulate Sony for its efforts to keep things rolling as expected.

  1. I am very happy that Sony have taken up measures to protect not only themselves, but of course the developers side. If piracy becomes rampant, in theory, we will enjoy less games at higher price. Not good for consumer side as well, and really unfair on those who continue to support game devs in the face of piracy.
