Is Slant Six working on the next Resident Evil?

As of right now, I’m not too sure whether to be concerned or delighted about the rumor of Slant Six taking over the next installment into the Resident Evil franchise. After all, Slant Six delivered a complete disappointment with its dip into the SOCOM franchise with Confrontation and that alone should leave fans of Resident Evil with a lack of confidence in the developer. However, Slant Six has delivered quality titles as well with Fire Team Bravo 3 on PSP.

According to Kotaku, they received a tip that the developer was hard at work on the title and that it would be called Resident Evil: Raccoon City. It should also be pointed out that it is expected to be a multiplayer-centric experience much like SOCOM: Confrontation, thus it will ultimately be considered a failure if this is true. It goes without saying that Resident Evil is about the experience and the atmosphere, not about 12-year old kids yelling on the microphone — I digress though.

On Slant Six’s official website, this blurb now appears and it definitely lends credence to the rumor being more true than not:

“Everyone here at Slant is  very excited as we begin development on an amazing new project.  The title is unannounced so far but we are very pleased to be working with our new publishing partner on a world class franchise!”

If you’re a fan of Resident Evil, is this something you’re looking forward to or do you already consider this a complete disaster? I’m not too sure where to stand right now, but if Slant Six releases anything even remotely similar to Confrontation, I may be jumping ship.

  1. Ugh, as if RE5 wasn’t action-y enough.

  2. Please no…I loved RE5 but I can’t hate this “westernization” enough. What’s next, FF being developed by Blizzard?
