With the release of Medal of Honor, Electronic Arts witnessed a very warm reception of the title, but not exactly something worth writing home about. Currently, the reboot of the franchise is sitting at a very average 75/100 on Metacritic and considering the title was slated to compete with the Call of Duty franchise, that should be considered a failure. However, Patrick Soderlund doesn’t quite see it that way and feels that Medal of Honor is definitely a step in the right direction — deservedly so.
“I’m not going to comment on the sales because EA has an earnings report going out and we will unveil sales in that meeting,” states Soderlund. “What I can say is the game didn’t meet our quality expectations. In order to be successful in that space, we’re going to have to have a game that is really, really strong. Medal of Honor is to some extent judged harsher than it should be. The game is better than today’s reviews are indicating.”
When question about what he would have given the title from a review standpoint, Soderlund sidestepped the question a bit and refused to really give a proper number. While it makes sense for him to avoid that type of statement, he should be willing to offer up something if he’s going to complain about a 75 average.
“I’m not going to say a specific number. I’m proud of what the game is and proud of what the team did. I just think the market is obviously telling us they think the game is X. We need to convince the market we can make something they appreciate more, particularly to be able to compete.
“We’re looking at that clearly. We’re taking that seriously. I’m not at all saying Medal of Honor is a failure. It is a successful reboot of that franchise. We’re going to be strong in the future.”

Shouldn’t have made it into a Modern Warfare rip-off.
