A highly acclaimed RPG has finally made it to PS5. The latest game comes from The Binding of Isaac creator Edmund McMillen.
Mewgenics, the best-reviewed action role-playing title, is now available for PlayStation 5. The turn-based adventure lets players breed the ultimate cat army and send them into various challenges.
An official description for the RPG reads, “Draft abilities, collect items and manipulate genetics in this roguelike tactics game from the creators of The Binding of Isaac and The End is Nigh.” Mewgenics has already amassed an exceptional response from PlayStation gamers. Currently, it holds an impressive global player rating of 4.92 out of 5.
What makes Mewgenics one of 2026’s highest-rated RPGs
Critics have praised Mewgenics’ overall gameplay experience, including the aesthetics and replayability factors, that make it a standout RPG in 2026. On OpenCritic, it currently holds an outstanding Top Critic Average score of 89 out of 100.
Simon Fitzgerald of Push Square praised the game’s attention to detail in different departments. He wrote, “Every aspect of the game is overflowing with charm and polish, from features like cross-save functionality to details like cats singing along to music.”
Robin Valentine of PC Gamer praised Mewgenics’ ability to provide 100+ hours of gameplay with its strategy-based format. He called it a “surprising roguelike that will drag you body and soul into its chaotic world.”
Dan Stapleton of IGN called it a “fantastic tactical RPG that’s good for more than a hundred hours of roguelike runs. Just when you think you have it figured out it’ll throw something completely unexpected and hilariously gross at you – and probably a catchy new original song, too.”
Ali Jones of GamesRadar+ highlighted the “gross-out humor and whacky build interactions” that make Mewgenics another great title from creator McMillen after The Binding of Isaac.
