Rumor has it that a PS2-era PlayStation exclusive action game series is set to return after a lengthy hiatus. Originally developed by Sucker Punch Productions, the Sly Cooper franchise hasn’t seen a new mainline entry since 2013’s PS3 and PS Vita game, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time. However, that’s reportedly set to change.

The return of PlayStation exclusive Sly Cooper series has been rumored over the years

A ResetEra user with a history of accurate leaks has claimed that Ape Escape and Killzone aren’t the only series that Sony is attempting to revive. The company has reportedly “opened its doors to licensing agreements and is accepting multiple game pitches” for dormant franchises. One of those pitches is reportedly for a Sly Cooper game.

This means that Sucker Punch Productions is unlikely to be developing the next entry, though it could serve as co-developer/consultant.

The return of Sly Cooper has been rumored several times over the years, but we haven’t heard anything from concrete sources until now. Considering this ResetEra user’s history and the fact that they first leaked God of War Sons of Sparta, we won’t be surprise if this report turns out to be true. However, we still advise our readers to take it with a grain of salt.
