Did you know? God of War III only possible on PS3

In a move never seen before in the gaming industry, Sony has stepped forward and declared that its upcoming exclusive, God of War III, is only possible on PlayStation 3.

According to UK Product Manager, Claire Backhouse, God of War III utilizes all the PlayStation 3’s Cell SPU’s and that the developers have worked hard in creating this masterpieces for PS3 owners.

“The developers have worked hard to use the power of the PS3 to make GOW3 look amazing and have added features that are only possible with PS3. The dynamic lighting solution employed in GOW III is only feasible through the computing power provided by the Cell SPUs.

“For example, using the High Dynamic Range Lighting (HDRL) technology, the camera – when using Krato’s sightline – will emulate the human retina, causing players to feel a sharp brightness when Kratos exits a dark area and enters a sunlit area, similar to how the human eye would need to adjust.”

If the sarcasm wasn’t clear enough — it’s getting a little old hearing that certain titles can only be made on certain consoles due to its raw power and ability. We’d love to hear what you think about this — do you think God of War III is capable of being ran on the 360 if it were to be ported (never would though)?

  1. Duh!
    It’s only common sense.

  2. My feeling is that yes, yis this title could be ported to the XBOX360 with little lost in the translation. The graphics processors used in the PS3 (essentially a geforce 7) and the XBOX360 (closest to the radeon 2000/3000 series) are very similar in performance levels. Sure, each graphics implementation has their own strengths and weaknesses, but overall they use GPU’s that are in the same overall generational class. Perhaps the PS3 specific ‘cell processor’ code would have to be rewritten to take advantage of the XB360’s tri-core processor and R600 based GPU, but I think it would like very similar to the PS3’s implementation.

All in all, I think this claim by the Sony camp is dubious at best, and outright fraudulent at worst.

  3. mayby
but it would probably be downgraded to the point of being a gow collection and would come on like 25 discs
and when i say probably, i mean most seartenetly

  4. just so you know, i wasent being sarcastic like Alaskana

  5. yeah, if it was built from the ground up for the 360 then it would be possible.

  6. Who cares? Only the PS3 gets it. =) Hehehe. Sweet, retina emulator? Cannot wait to get my hands on this masterpiece when it arrives in March! It’s going to be amazing.

  7. yes and no, yes it could be made for the 360, and no because i feel the experience would only feel better on the ps3 as it has more hardware specs and other aspects that the 360 just cant pull off, weve already seen what this console is capable of, and its still got more left to give. i dont remember where i heard it from but i agree with this statement “Gears of War 2 is still the best looking tittle on the 360” as i have still seen anything that has yet to push the boundary that it has set, however that might change with the new halo reach coming out, who knows?

  8. Yes, any game can be done on any console. The devs would just have to take the time and change things that are done on one console and make them work on the other console. It won’t happen but it can be done. Of course, anything can be done.

  9. how many times are we going to here this about ps3 exclusives?

  10. Sony likes to brag lol

  11. xero said exactly what i was thinking, they say this a lot about their exclusive…if i’m not mistaken, didn’t they also said that about ffxiii before it was announced onto the 360? i could be wrong

  12. The questions is can the game be done on 360, running exactly how it will run on the PS3. And the answer is no, because the SPUs and Blu-Ray give developers more headroom that the 360 just cannot provide.

  13. if they water it down enough

  14. Yeah it’s possible on Xbox 360:
Just port the game and make it God of War 3ree disks then boot the game in the Xbox, get RROD and throw that piece of Microsoft trash out of your house.

  15. @Raptor
You said exactly what I was thinking and what people should realize.

Of course any game can be made on any console, the old NES and certain handheld electronics prove that. But every system has its limits, and the PS3’s limits FAR exceeds the 360’s. So therefor it wouldn’t be the same GOW3 that we’ll have on the PS3.

Basically what is being said within the statement “only possible on the PS3” is “only possible the way it is on the PS3”.
