EA: Insomniac title to raise the bar

A little while ago Insomniac shocked most gamers when they announced a partnership with Electronic Arts and its plans to release multiplatform content in the future. While generally, this concerned most gamers on the Ratchet & Clank and Resistance front, most of those, if not all concerns were acquiesced during E3 in June. However, according to EA Partner’s boss David DeMartini, Insomniacs upcoming multiplatform title is going to be “breaking new ground.”

Obviously there isn’t much known about the game and it’s set to be the studios first multiplatform release in its successful sixteen year history, but that isn’t stopping DeMartini from letting people know that it’s going to raise the metacritic bar for the team.

Speaking with Eurogamer, DeMartini had the following to say:

“They’re doing what Insomniac does,” DeMartini said. “Insomniac makes really high-quality experiences that consumers love, and they’re doing that again. They are breaking some ground with regards to gameplay. But I’m not going to sit here and say, ‘Yeah, they’re going 4D.’

“Insomniac regularly has set a bar at 90 in Metacritic. I think this game is going to exceed that bar. It is a really great creative idea that they’re executing on marvellously so far. There’s a lot of time between now and the finish line, but based on their track record, I’m highly confident they’re going to get there. I think sooner rather than later we’re going to be sharing some early concepts on that one because they’ve made so much progress. They’re in a great position.

“The maturity of their technology and their team allows them to make a tremendous amount of early progress. They can take some of the concepts to consumers in a rather developed form, and get feedback. We’re just in the middle of that feedback loop and they’re making great progress.”

We’ve seen how fast Insomniac can put together a franchise when they released the Chimera upon the world in quick succession this generation, so it should be interesting to see what they come up with. Ted Price always has something new up his sleeve that he’s looking to deliver to gamers and this seems like no exception.

Are you guys more excited for this potential bar raising title or more excited for Resistance 3 and Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One?

  1. I hope this game is more on the lighthearted side like R&C. Insomniac does a good enough job with srs bsns, but their humorous games shine.

  2. I’m interested in R3, but not All 4 One. I’ve been a long-time fan, but R&C is wearing a bit thin for me.

Also interested to see what the new IP is.

  3. well i realy buy a loot of insomiac games, and im realy ecsited about their futhure franchise cuz theire the ones that deliver never before seen enemies and weapons to the gaming industry(gues who came up with focus mode for sniping, thats right insomiac did)
