DICE/EA’s proprietary Frostbite 2 engine was created in order to redefine what the common gamer sees what he picks up and plays a first-person shooter game. The new Frostbite 2 engine features revolutionary real-time radiosity that is very hard to find a match for anywhere else in the industry and it’s the exact engine the company is utilizing to develop Battlefield 3.
Unlike the Unreal Engine, EA/DICE have no plans to sell licenses for this engine as the company has stated they’re looking to make great software from the engine and not just sell a piece of tech. So, don’t expect to see any of these breakthroughs popping up in other games you’re looking forward to outside of EA.
The tech demo included below shows off the Enlighten effect which demonstrates how the work flow, content pipelines and run-time systems are greatly increased for use in video games.

Wow, not too shabby.
Did ANYONE get a Mirrors Edge 2 vibe of this? Aww yeah 😀
