Last year when Activision launched Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, it managed to topple every game released after it for quite some time to remain number one in sales in the United Kingdom. This year, with the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops, Activision had plans for that same style of sales domination as before — however, the publisher obviously wasn’t prepared for one thing — Gran Turismo 5.
As expected, Gran Turismo 5 sold a ridiculous amount of copies in Europe, but mainly in the UK. In fact, it’s opening week sales were up in comparison to Gran Turismo 4. Overall, the game released as the 6th largest launch to date for the PlayStation 3 and Sony is hoping for that success to lead to console sales as well.
Black Ops didn’t fall far to the racing King though as it still managed a second place finish with Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood and FIFA 11 following up behind it.
Considering the popularity of the franchise, hopefully it can remain on top of the sales charts for several weeks to come.
Nice I am loving GT5 right now.
