Has EA rejected Mirror’s Edge sequel?

According to reports from Swedish television Press 2 Play TV (translated by EuroGamer), development of any kind on Mirror’s Edge 2 has been put on full stop at EA DICE as of this morning. This decision took place after a prototype presentation fell shy of meeting expectations and sales of the original release didn’t help the selling point either.

“Patrick [Soderlund – EA driving and shooting game boss] acknowledges that Mirror’s Edge didn’t match up to their expectations regarding sales, and that has stopped the sequel that has been in development,” declared the report, published originally in December.

“EA was shown a prototype, but declined with askance. The project has been stopped – involved parties at DICE are working on something else now. Patrick himself seems to have Mirror’s Edge near his heart, but they are not in the business of charity.”

Considering DICE has a couple of titles already in development, most importantly, Battlefield 3 — it’s easy to assume the extra support is going to be dumped into that team’s efforts in order to continue to battle the Call of Duty franchise head-to-head.

Do you guys agree with this decision despite sales of the original being mediocre? Would you prefer to see a Mirror’s Edge 2 in the mix? Let us know in the comment section below or on our forums here.

  1. well this sucks seems like the only games people wanna make these days are shootem war games and dont wanna put commitment into any other games

    • Shooters are safe and you most likely get your money back or turn a profit cause that’s where the industry is right now.But i feel Third person shooters are gonna make a strong come back.

  2. This is bullcrap! I LOVED the first game & it has been one of my most anticipated sequels for years. A first person platformer is original…generic shooter 13 isn’t.

  3. you know… sure mirrors edge was short on storyline and replayability, but for those few hores it gawe you a unike and fun gameplay, plus it was a new take at the rlr mechanic
ya prototipe sucked, and a sequel dosent look like the best choice
but theres no need to cancle a project with potential just cuz it dident sell like bc did
what if shadow of the colosis and the last guardian were rejected just because ico dident sell good
