After some comments made by Bethesda’s lead designer Todd Howard for Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, we know a bit about Skyrim’s “greybeards”.
The greybeards are, from the perspective of the player, a group of mysterious elders who reside in High Hrothgar. These old men understand the power of the dragons, which play a massive role in Skyrim, and what the protagonist (you), are ultimately trying to eliminate. According to Howard, the greybeards will play a prominent role throughout the course of the new game.
*Small Spoiler Warning*
In an interview with OXM UK, Howard mentioned that the greybeards have been in the lore of past games, and are the masters of ‘The Voice’. Howard continued, “So they’ve built their temple up on this mountain to be closer to the sky so they are able to tune themselves wit the way of the Voice.”
“I don’t know how much I want to spoil about it, but at one point in the game they do call you by shouting your name to the wind. You go there to learn from them – what are these abilities about, and how do I learn from them? They act kind of like the Jedi Masters.”
Skyrim is set to take two centuries after the events of predecessor Oblivion. In Skyrim, located in the northern region of Tamriel, civil war plagues the land, all while the god Alduin rises in an attempt to destroy the world (hence the dragons).
This highly anticipated title will release November 11th, 2011 worldwide for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
