Sony is known for always trying to make things as sleek as they can be. When the PlayStation 3 was being unveiled, there was plenty of talk about how sleek the console was. Even before the PlayStation 3, they did similar things with the PS2 and PSOne; redesigning the models for a sleeker, newer look. More recently Sony redesigned their PS3’s bluetooth headset , giving it a new, sleek look that inspires a purchase before an knowledge of what it is. Now, as stated in a report on Sony’s Japanese site, Sony is looking to redesign their first-party media remote. According to the report, the new model may take replace the current model of the remote.
Of course, the new model of the remote will be able to do everything the current model can, and yes, it will be able to go even further. Thanks to the addition of an IR emitter in the remote, the new model will be able to sync with multiple devices; a function toyed with by Sony with the media remotes for their Bravia TVs. What’s difference about this remote, however, is that it can sync with any television; even if it doesn’t wear the Sony brand.
Currently, the remote is only confirmed for Japan. One could assume that, if the new design and functionality is a success, Sony will expand it to other regions such as North America and the United Kingdom. The new remote will be hitting Japanese stores on March 31, 2011 for a total of 3,600 yen (equivalent to around $43, or £32).
