Konami has again scored another critical hit. Its latest survival horror title is earning praise for its atmosphere, gameplay, and fresh approach. Screen Burn Interactive developed the project while Konami Digital Entertainment co-published it alongside Annapurna Interactive.
Silent Hill: Townfall‘s early reviews for PlayStation 5 point to a positive reception. As of writing, the game holds an 81 on Metacritic and an 82 on OpenCritic based on early critic scores. Both PlayStation LifeStyle and ComingSoon rated it 9 out of 10.
PlayStation LifeStyle’s review praised its atmosphere, exploration, and balance between new mechanics and enemy encounters. “Silent Hill: Townfall offers up one of the most tense and compelling survival horror experiences in recent years,” the review stated. However, it also noted some difficult puzzles and confusing areas as drawbacks.
ComingSoon says nothing dangerous appears for the first 30 minutes, yet the empty streets still build tension. Its review praised the first-person perspective and the way the game builds tension through exploration. The review also highlights the CRTV, which helps players track enemies and solve puzzles. “It’s a refreshing and well-crafted take on survival horror that is a fitting addition to the franchise’s legacy,” reads the review.
How Silent Hill: Townfall balances action, exploration & fear
Exploration is the center of Silent Hill: Townfall’s gameplay. Players navigate empty narrow streets, abandoned homes, and old buildings while searching for clues about what happened to the town.
Combat remains limited, as it offers only melee weapons like wooden planks or lead pipes initially, but breaks after repeated use. Melee combat is not always a smarter choice, so using stealth mechanics to sneak past enemies could help survive for a longer time.
More weapons and mechanics arrive alongside new limits and tougher enemies. Ammunition can also be limited, encouraging players to think carefully before engaging enemies. That balance holds across an estimated 15-hour campaign.
