Activision and Infinity Ward are quickly learning that hype is all it takes to break sales records and garner the top spot in the UK’s weekly software sales chart. The latest installment into the Modern Warfare franchise has sat atop in the charts for the past eight consecutive weeks, making it the longest running sales leader among video games in that region.

Despite a strong sales decrease from week to week as of late, Modern Warfare 2 managed to retain its title this past week with Assassin’s Creed II scratching at its heels. While we’d love to tell you this is obviously the result of hard work and dedication from a development team standpoint, it goes without saying that if most people were aware of the issues going on online, a good chunk of people would be passing this title up.
