When Sony unveiled the PlayStation Portable 2, dubbed NGP, gamers were excited about the prospect to finally get their hands on some fabulous looking Uncharted on the go. However, when it came to light that Naughty Dog, the creators behind the iconic PlayStation 3 franchise, wasn’t the team developing the title, there was a slight sigh of disappointment from the industry.
This, of course, begged the question: Why isn’t Naughty Dog developing the portable version of our hero, Nathan Drake?
According to Arne Meyer, the Community Manager behind the franchise, Naughty Dog stepped aside for the project because they prefer to tackle only a single title at a time. And, as you know, Uncharted 3 is currently in development as well.
“We’re a one game studio so it would be very challenging for us,” said Naughty Dog community man Arne Meyer when asked why the studio wasn’t coding the upcoming NGP Uncharted game itself.
“I know a long time ago we had looked at trying to do that as well, but it’s really about what makes sense for the universe and for the franchise as well,” he added.
However, those of you concerned about the studio that has taken over the daunting task, Sony Bend, you should probably quit worrying already. In case you forgot, Sony Bend’s last iteration on the PlayStation Portable was a fantastic gem known as Resistance: Retribution. It just so happens that that title is arguably one of the best ever delivered on the portable hand held, so we should be expecting big things on the Uncharted front.
“Sony Bend’s a great studio, we have a great relationship with them, so it’s really exciting to see a new platform and see what they can do with it given all of the new control options they’ve got as well,” Meyer said.
This should put any gamer at ease and continue to spike the anticipation level of a portable Uncharted title from here on out. Unless you disliked Resistance: Retribution, you should have nothing but excitement in store for the future and hopefully Sony Bend delivers as crisply as the last time.
