No campaign co-op for Black Ops

In what we believe to be not so surprising news, Treyarch has confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops does not feature a campaign co-op experience in the upcoming title. For those of you who are surprised, it’s easy to realize that Modern Warfare didn’t offer up this option either outside of a specialized co-op mode and we’re guessing Treyarch is taking that same approach as well.

Treyarch’s community lead, Josh Olin, has confirmed that there is a lot to reveal about the games co-op aspects, but executive producer Dan Suarez confirmed to GamerTag Radio that gamers shouldn’t expect a full-fledged co-op campaign like you’d expect out of Gears of War.

“There’s no campaign co-op this year,” said executive producer Dan Suarez.

I consider this a positive step as it seems to be more and more developers are focusing on the online aspects and multiplayer sections of games instead of creating a truly immersive single-player experience, something the industry needs more of. Would you prefer Black Ops to have online co-op for its campaign or do you enjoy experiencing that portion of the title alone?

  1. First that dedicated server BS now this. Whats next; a $14.99 DLC that adds co-op…

  2. I’ll be honest when I say that I completely skipped over the campaign mode of MW2 until a couple of weeks of playing online. IMO, all single player campaign does is explain the location of multiplayer maps.
If I want to play with friends, I’ll play online in a team deathmatch-esque experience. I don’t need co-op for that.
