Sony Interactive Entertainment has all but confirmed rising fears about PlayStation 6 price, suggesting that next-gen gaming will be an expensive affair for everyone. In a recent investor meeting, the company revealed that recent hardware price hikes have not led to a decline in customer demand for PlayStation consoles.

Sony says it won’t sell PlayStation 6 at a loss in response to question about next-gen hardware price

We’ve recently seen reports that PS5 hardware sales have been decimated following several price hikes. Sony understandably has access to data that gaming publications don’t see and reads the situation differently.

In response to a question specifically about next-gen hardware prices, Sony said it does “not intend to sell hardware at significant losses,” which means the PS6’s bill of materials will translate into a heavy price tag for consumers.

“We are carefully monitoring the market and continuing to evaluate our approach. We believe it is important for us to make every effort to ensure that customers fully understand the value we provide in relation to pricing,” Sony added.

The good news is that Sony told investors it wants to tailor its product offerings for different customers. The company specifically mentioned PS Portal, hinting that reports of a next-gen portable are true.

“We aim to provide experiences tailored to users’ play styles beyond the living room, which has traditionally been considered the primary usage environment,” Sony explained.
