The PS5 is getting a reboot of a hit PS1 action game. Better yet, the title is set to release this year, giving fans access to a classic title.

PS1 game Cotton: Fantastic Night Dreams heads to PS5 as reboot series in October 2026

Clear River Games announced that it will release Cotton Reboot! on October 22, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. The game is a reboot of the 1991 game Cotton: Fantastic Night Dreams, and will be available with both a physical and digital release. This isn’t the first time the reboot has landed, as the title previously releases on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC in 2021.

The reboot of the classic 1991 title features touched up visuals, as well as the ability to play in both an “HD Reboot” mode as well as the game’s original mode, as it was on the Sharp X68000 home computer.

“Defining the cute ’em up genre since 1991, Cotton the witch captured players’ hearts and tested their resolve as she became a beloved mascot of the genre, seeking out her beloved sweet Willow treats. Now returning in Cotton Reboot!, players will be reintroduced to one of Japan’s favorite cute ‘em up titles, this time in either HD or the iconic pixel perfect graphics thanks to the HD Reboot mode or X68000 original mode,” reads the game’s description.

The original game is the first installment in the Cotton series, and follows the story of a young witch, Cotton, who sets out on an adventure alongside her fairy companion Silk. Cotton: Fantastic Night Dreams was one of the defining games of what would become known as the “cute ’em up” sub-genre.

The genre is highlighted for its brightly colored graphics and take on the shoot ’em up genre. Other games in the genre include titles like Twinbee, Fantasy Zone, Parodius, and more.
