Reliable insiders have hinted at a PS5 remake of a popular PS3 action adventure game that kick-started Ubisoft’s biggest franchise ever. We’ve heard rumblings of an Assassin’s Creed 1 (2007) remake many times over the years, but now two known leakers have added weight to those rumors.
From PS3 to PS5: When should we expect a remake of the first Assassin’s Creed game?
After Ubisoft announced its worst-kept secret, Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced, insider Tom Henderson claimed that “at least one more Assassin’s Creed game is in development as a remake.” Writing on his website Insider Gaming, Henderson added that Ubisoft will be closely monitoring the response to Black Flag Resynced.
Quoting the same rumor, French insider j0nathan — known for their accurate Ubisoft leaks — tweeted that he heard about an Assassin’s Creed remake as far back as 2023 from one of their contacts.
These rumors do make sense. 2027 will mark Assassin’s Creed franchise’s 20th anniversary (yes, we’re all THAT old), and the only game in the series that can’t currently be played on modern consoles is the one that started it all for Ubisoft. For PlayStation players specifically, it’s also the only game in the series that never received trophies, as it was released before Sony launched the feature.
If these rumors are true, we’re expecting to visit Damascus as Altaïr Ibn-LaʼAhad in 2027.
As for the response to Black Flag Resynced, given that the game has skyrocketed to the top of preorder charts on multiple storefronts (including the PS Store) across the globe and has held its position there, we have a hunch that it’ll be a commercial success for Ubisoft.
