A long-forgotten 90s PS1 action game is getting a surprise remake for the PS5. First launched on Steam in 2024, Shigatake Games’ Devil Blade Reboot is being ported to consoles by M2. The vertical-scrolling shoot ’em up originally launched in 1996.
PS1 action game Devil Blade headed to PS5 on an unspecified date
As spotted by Gematsu, M2 confirmed Devil Blade’s console versions but didn’t announce a release date. For now, all you get is the teaser below:
The reboot earned an “Overwhelmingly Positive” user rating on Steam.
Full list of console platforms will be announced at a later date.
“Devil Blade, a 1996 indie shmup released only in Japan, gets a full remake almost a quarter century later, taking advantage of the latest technology,” an official description reads. “An immersive pseudo-3D experience that pushes the limits of pixel art. A perfect fusion of background music and evolving stage design, only possible in a shoot ’em up! A seamless presentation that connects all scenes in one cohesive package.”
Key features include detailed 2D pixel art graphics, Berserk difficulty mode, and a retro mode (Arrange mode of Devil Blade created in Dezaemon+ — a shoot ’em up creation tool originally released for PlayStation).
We’ll update our readers when we have more information.
