A recently released PS5 horror game just received a free update that adds a unique gameplay feature utilizing the DualSense controller. Released earlier this year, Silverpine Creek, a VHS-style found-footage game, has made its malevolent witch, Korana, even more aggressive at haunting players. It is the first game from developer Phantom Toast to launch on PC and consoles.

Silverpine Creek invites players to immerse themselves in a world inspired by Ganny and other viral horror games. Players explore a cursed, dilapidated village haunted by Korana, a woman who was burned at the stake for practicing witchcraft.

How Silverpine Creek’s DualSense microphone feature puts players at risk

With no weapons at their disposal, players can interact with the game only through their voices via a microphone. They must stay quiet to avoid giving away their positions to Korana. On PS5, players can do the same using the built-in mic on the DualSense controller. In any version, making any noise or bumping into objects can pose a danger to players.

Solving puzzles and collecting ritual items bring players closer to the final ceremony on Witch Hill, which is the only way out of the nightmare. The developers used binaural audio design, similar to that in Hellblade, to create a more immersive experience for the players. As they try to hide from Korana, they’ll have to be smart about navigating the many environmental traps the witch has set. The only defense is a camera flash, which needs to be used strategically. Since sound can reveal the players’ location, even a careless noise could jeopardize their investigation.

On the PlayStation Store, Silverpine Creek has a 4.21 rating out of 5, based on 34 reviews. While its Metacritic rating is unavailable, the game also has a mixed verdict from 19 reviews on Steam.

Silverpine Creek is available on the PlayStation Store for PS5 for $9.99.
