Spike Chunsoft’s classic time-travel adventure game arrives on the PS Store today with upgraded graphics and improved audio. Based on a popular Japanese novel of the same name, the remake is also available on PC, Xbox, and Nintendo consoles.
Steins;Gate Re:Boot is now available on the PlayStation Store for PS5, with the standard edition priced at $59.99 for both digital and physical copies. Developed by MAGES., the game completely rebuilds the cult classic 2009 visual novel from the ground up.
Steins;Gate originally launched on Xbox 360 in 2009 and has sold 4 million units worldwide. The story follows Rintaro Okabe, a tech-savvy student whose group accidentally invents a way to send messages into the past. “As global conspiracies stir and timelines begin to twist, the curtain rises on a future steeped in chaos,” reads the official synopsis.
What’s new in Steins;Gate Re:Boot? New Gamma Worldline and deluxe edition details
The major highlight of the reboot is the introduction of Gamma Worldline, a new story route. Okabe finds himself in a timeline where the time machine was never completed.
In this world, D-Mails, which previously allowed characters to send messages into the past, do not exist. The PlayStation Store listing promises “a new kind of brutality, unlike anything seen before” for both Okabe and the player.
The developer also upgraded its presentation with character designs, backgrounds, and key scenes redrawn from scratch. As per the description, it features twice as many still images and 20% more background graphics than the original game.
The production also integrates E-mote technology for smoother animations, alongside a fully remastered soundtrack by composer Takeshi Abo and newly re-recorded Japanese voice lines.
In addition to the standard release, a $79.99 Digital Deluxe Edition includes a digital art book, the complete game soundtrack, live event footage, and the spin-off game Steins;Gate Octet of Shifting Space. A physical SteelBook Edition is also available for $69.99.
Players picking up physical copies are advised to install the mandatory day-one patch before starting their playthrough, as applying the update post-launch will wipe existing save data.
