It seems that developers Rockstar have more ideas for its immensely popular Wild West free-roam title: Red Dead Redemption. Released in May last year, it has remained popular amongst gamers both on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. With a strong storyline, and hours of additional gameplay in side missions alone, Red Dead Redemption is by no means a game to discard as just another title trying to capture the image of the Wild West. Undead Nightmare, an expansion for the game released in October, only increased the title’s popularity. Undead Nightmare provides an alternative twist to the storyline, where zombies plague the Wild West.
With all of that in mind, one would guess that this title is finally complete. However, Rockstar’s VP of Product Development Jeronimo Barrera has shed some light on the possibility of more to come:
“[We’re most pleased] either that huge numbers of people loved the game enough to play through to the end, and then encouraged friends to play it – we hope without spoiling the end for them – or at a more basic level… that we could convince that many people that they wanted to play a game about the wild west,”
This statement in itself can give one hope of more to come for the title; as when something is acknowledged to be a success, developers often continue to release downloadable content for it. In addition to the above, when asked if there were enough ideas left to create a sequel, Barrera said:
“For all the games we work on, we have a massive number of ideas that [don’t] make it in.”
Whether or not this hints at the possibility of more coming to Red Dead Redemption, or perhaps the possibility of a sequel cannot be determined thus far. What we can conclude: Rockstar certainly hasn’t overlooked the massive success Red Dead Redemption has been, and has plenty ideas left for their take on the Wild West.
