In late 2010, it was revealed that PlayStation’s God of War would be making his way to the tournament known as Mortal Kombat. This announcement was met with more praise than anything else as Kratos is the prime example of a character that should be making cameos in fighting titles (looking at you Vader/Yoda).
Of course, with any announcement, however, cause can concern can be found and one of the only concerns relates to how NeverRealm’s planned on utilizing Kratos and how he would play within the game’s world. Fortunately, Ed Boon, the creator behind Mortal Kombat, has expressed their desire to respect Kratos as a character and to implement him within the game in true God of War-like fashion.
Speaking with Game Master magazine, Boon discussed exactly how both companies wanted to introduce a PlayStation character that was unique to its brand into Mortal Kombat.
“In our discussions with Sony we all wanted a character that was unique to the PS3, and Kratos was at the top of everyone’s list.
“His look and fight style are very compatible to the MK universe. Everyone is really excited about this opportunity, and it’s been great working with the God of War team in making this happen.”
Furthermore, the developers have chosen to take a careful path with Kratos in making sure that he stays true to form and what gamers would expect from him in this type of environment.
“With any great IP, there are guidelines that must be followed. We’re working really closely with the God of War team to ensure that Kratos looks and feels the way gamers expect him to. We have nothing but respect for the God of War development team, and our goal is to stay true to their creation
“Kratos is very much a power character,” he added, “in that his attacks can do a lot of damage. After all, he is the God of War.”
Without a doubt, Mortal Kombat for the PlayStation 3 has to be the premiere version to own with the addition of Kratos. However, it’s still expected that Microsoft and NeverRealm will reveal an exclusive character for its version of the game as well. Do you think any specific 360-exclusive character would create more pull from multi-console owners to purchase its format over the PlayStation 3 version exists? If so, which character?
mayby Bayoneta would work good, if ms purchases whrights to it, but that dosent seem wery likely to hapen,(but it be awesome if they did)
