Each and every year, rumors concerning the next Call of Duty game circulate the internet. Most turn out to not be true, but this one may very well break that pattern. Earlier today, Eurogamer reported (via ThisisXbox) that the next Call of Duty title will be a prequel to the critically acclaimed Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. According to the insider sources, the game’s story will delve into the mysterious “Ghost” character, and just how he came to be part of Task Force 141. It is also said that the game will run using Modern Warfare 2’s engine, rather than on a newly designed one.
Another rumor concerning the game has been circulating as well, saying that it will be made by the developers of Quake 4 and Singularity (plus many others); Raven Software. The only bit of information so far to help prove this right is a job advert for a lead FX person, stating they are looking for someone to help develop “an established console-based, realistic, first-person military shooter”.
Although both of these rumors may be proved false with time, they certainly raise the possibility of the Call of Duty franchise moving in an unexpected direction. Rumors have been circulating the internet concerning a “Modern Warfare 3” for awhile now, which would make a prequel to Call of Duty 4 even more of a surprise.
Expect more on this in the following months.
Sounds awesome. Raven, for the most part, is a capable developer. Sucks that the game is still using Modern Warfare 2’s engine, but if it’s even half as awesome as Modern Warfare 2 then I’ll enjoy it.
No new engine? No upgrade at all? Wow. And I still expect a MW3. But whatever. If its fun and well done like Black Ops, I’m in.
omg, a nother cod game?
what a big suprise!
and this time you might not be playing the story as one of 6 to 10 difrent caracters?
