SCEA sets up extended protection plan

Has your PlayStation 3 broken down after the one year manufacturer warranty expired? Did you accidentally drop your PlayStation Portable and perhaps crack the screen with no silver lining at all? Sony understands these frustrations and is finally rolling out their extended Protection Plan.

Announced today on the Official PlayStation Blog, SCEA is rolling out the PlayStation Protection Plan which will allow users to extend their warranty up to 2 years past the initial year. This means that you can extend your PS3 or PSP to a total of 3 years worth of warranty. Of course, this offer is only being given to owners still under warranty and those who plan to purchase a PS3/PSP from this day forward.

The PlayStation Portable Accidental Damage Plan will cover cracked screens on your PSP and will also span the two years if desired. We’ve included pricing structure below.

  • PS3 – 1-year extension ($44.99) or 2-year extension ($59.99)
  • PSP – 1-year extension ($29.99) or 2-year extension ($39.99)
  • PSP Accidental Damage – 1-year ($39.99) or 2-year ($49.99)

    This would’ve been nice to have when my PS3 konked out last October, 2 months before a 3-year warranty would have expired on my launch unit. Still, worth looking into for my Slim.

    this is welcome as i have had a ps3 since 2007 and gone through 3 ps3’s. not because i dropped them or anything they just got that yellow light thingy. of course warranty was out and cost me £140 but the 2nd and 3rd time they gave it me free because i had already paid the first time.

    Ah… we have to pay…. Well I’ve had my Ps3 since the summer of 09 so I can get the extension…. But however I’m confident that my Ps3 will not break on me within the next 10-15 years so warranty is not needed XD

    my local electronics store(Big Bang) has ofered a simular extended waranty for a few years now
    my ps3 was purchased with a premium waranty of 6 years and 80% coverege in case of any outside made damage(drop, hit, ran ower, etc)
