According to Anton Mikhailov, Sony Computer Entertainment software engineer, Sony’s PlayStation Move has been selling very well and has been limited only by supply rather than anything else. Speaking with VideoGamer.com, Mikhailov also revealed that a lot of people who purchase the PlayStation Move are purchasing secondary controllers as well.
When questioned about how he feels the launch of Move has gone, he replied: “I think actually it went really well. We are exceeding our predictions which is always a good thing.”
He added: “We’re legitimately bound by supply which is great, that’s always better than being artificially bound [laughs].”
However, despite the excitement of how well the Move is doing, Mikhailov seemed even more impressed at how many people were enjoying the experiencing with a friend or as a dual-remote setup.
“The other good thing is a lot of people are buying a second controller which is also awesome because one of the things we really want to enable is a two-handed experience,” explained Mikhailov. “So we always wanted our launch to be pretty much playable with one controller so we don’t alienate anyone and we have a low priced entry but we found that a lot of people after playing Sports Champions – that’s the US bundle – they went out and got a second controller to play either two-player or two-handed gladiator duel.”
Regardless of whether you enjoy the Move or not, it’s evident that Sony needs to hurry up and push software for the product before interest dies out. Currently the selection is very limited and weak and unless things change within the next couple of months (beyond Killzone 3), the PlayStation Move is going to fade out pretty rapidly.
I will buy move when there are truly interesting experiences made specifically for it.
