For those wondering if Sony could actively sustain a 10-year cycle for the PlayStation 3, they seem intent to stick to their guns.

Speaking to Eurogamer, SCE Worldwide President Shuhei Yoshida said that they would “seriously consider” launching a PlayStation 4 when game developers reach the PS3’s ceiling.

“Looking at the platform cycle, when the platform becomes something game developers are not able to improve their creations with, that’s the time we have to really seriously consider shifting to the next generation,” Yoshida said.

Earlier in January, Danny Bilson spoke to Eurogamer and said that new consoles in the near future “would be horrible” due to high development costs for current-generation games, a viewpoint that may very well be shared by other developers and publishers.

  1. i know its just an opinion
but so far sony was loyal to their 7 year concole cicle
i beliewe nothing will change with that

but that dosent mean the ps3 will be maxed out until then
the ps3 has a very special cpu, its devided at 8 cores, each clocked at 3.5, the curent software enables 6 of them to be used for games, 1 thats used for the xmb and decripting, and 1 thats software locked
when the curent software is ineficient for making curent games or when they reach a point where they make more money per console as they do per game
sony will almoast sertenatly re-purpose the functions of the cpu cores for their concole to be mor competitive, and turn a much biger profit on the market
