Sony Shrugs Off Wii U

Sony is not changing its future hardware release plans because of Nintendo’s Wii U announcement. The “PS4” is expected to be released within the next couple of years, but will not be released earlier to compete with the Wii U. According to SCEA’s Jack Tretton. “If you’re looking at high def gaming, that was 2006 for us,” said Tretton.

The Wii U’s technology is seen to be still behind what the PS3. “I didn’t see anything about Nintendo’s announcement that said ‘Oh, we’d better get working on rolling out a new PlayStation here pretty soon,” Tretton said.

So it doesn’t look like Sony will announce a new console (assumed to be called the PlayStation 4 in following past naming convention) any time soon either. “PlayStation 3 is really just hitting its stride. And technologically, I don’t think it’s possible to provide any advancement beyond what we have,” he said.
