Sony teams up with HBO for PSN

Today Sony has officially announced a partnership deal with the Home Box Office network known to many as simply, HBO. HBO has done incredible things for television that include hit TV shows like Entourage and True Blood as of late.

This partnership will allow PlayStation 3 owners to stream their favorite HBO episodes straight from their PlayStation 3s. Though this is great news, it begs the question as to how much of an impact it will have on future consumers considering the ability to already stream Netflix through the device already.

CEO Jack Tretton had the following to add: “HBO is a high-profile content provider, and a real premium service, so we think this really reinforces that the PlayStation is more than just a video-game console now. It gives consumers that big-screen, HD experience in the home on a device other than cable and satellite, and that’s becoming the norm now as opposed to the exception.

“Networks like HBO can be beholden to the cable and satellite companies, or they can play wherever the consumers play.”

Fans of popular HBO series like the previously mentioned True Blood will be able to download single episodes for $1.99 a pop while other episodes will cost roughly $.99.

Do you guys think you’ll be taking advantage of this partnership?

  1. HBO stinks! Rather have Skinamax any day, at least it has something good on once in a while..

  2. i guess its better than show time

  3. Meh. I’d rather have Weeds. Weeds is Starz, right? I’m not paying for an individual episode anyway.
