Take-Two: Expect Wii gamers to graduate to PS Move

Some fans of the gaming industry have been quick to jump the gun in regards to Sony’s upcoming PlayStation Move release in North America, simply calling it a Wii HD and a ripoff. While the latter is obviously ridiculous, the former brings up a great point and I can only question as to why that’s such a bad thing. What is so bad about creating an HD universe for Wii gamers to Move on to once they’re done playing with the Wii? Nothing.

Take-Two seems to feel the same way as CEO Ben Feder believes that Sony is offering up the perfect opportunity for Wii gamers to finally graduate into an HD world by picking up a PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Move.

“The PS3 with Move, in my view, is the Wii HD system. I think maybe mom isn’t playing, but the kids are graduating, and Microsoft and Sony have both provided a bridge to bring them over.

“I do believe Nintendo did widen the audience,” he added. “I can’t tell you how many people are going to graduate, but I do believe they raised a generation of kids to play videogames that are now growing up and wanting a true HD experience.”

Is everyone going to share Feder’s view on this? Probably not, but the man does make a great point. Despite the lack of belief that many people will buy into Move if they already own a Wii, I think Sony is going to do much better than expected with the product — especially with all of the positive press the device received not only through reviews but at the latest GameStop managerial conference as well.

  1. The hardcore gamers will probably move to it if/when their are a good number of core games, but the casuals I think are fine with the wii and probably don’t see the need to spend another $400+ on something they probably occasionally play.

  2. If you’re going to pay $400 just to update to the “better Wii”, that’s kind of a waste. The PS3 is the attraction, not the peripheral/controller. “Hardcore” Wii gamers are only made up of hardcore Nintendo fans who are just waiting for more Nintendo classics to come (Zelda, Metroid, Mario). If they ever move to PS3, it won’t be for Move, it’ll be for the console.
