Ueda always wanted the Team ICO collection to be a reality

Last week, Sony and Team ICO confirmed that Ico and Shadow of the Colossus being redistributed in the form of a remastered collection for PlayStation 3 was indeed a reality. Fans of the studio rejoiced in this decision as it was one of the most sought after and requested collections for Sony to release after The Sly Collection and God of War Collection. As many of you know, Ico and SotC were both cult classic hits during the PlayStation 2 generation and probably didn’t receive as many sales as deserved.

Now, however, gamers have the opportunity to either relive these titles or finally have the chance to play them for the first time and Ueda couldn’t be happier.

“This is something I’ve always wanted to revisit on PS3 and I’m very happy to be able to accomplish this with even higher production values.

“I’m delighted with how it has turned out,” he continues. “Unfortunately, unlike the movie industry, videogames sometimes get forgotten when people move onto the next generation, so this is a great opportunity to makes these games accessible to both fans of the series and to a new audience.”

When you think about it, Ueda is absolutely correct and it’s exactly why you see successful franchises like Star Wars have remastered collections through time — in order for the brand to continue to be accessible to all viewers without being forgotten. Now that the Team ICO collection is a sure thing, which collection are you looking forward to seeing most next? Personally, I’d love to see them bundle Persona 3 FES  and Persona 4 into a collection — but that’s just me.

  1. I’d kill for a KH Collection, which I’m sure will happen one day. KH1 and KH2 (preferably the Final Mix versions), and then a KH3 later on 🙂

  2. I agree with Hero 1000%!

  3. While I’m happy that he’s doing that, I kinda would’ve preferred a full remake, but hey….I’m definitely still happy with what we’ve got.

  4. I agree with Hero too. . . in fact, if possible, they should do a recollection of every RPG game back in the PS2 days. That would be hella awesome(I played a lot of RPGs back then)

  5. Metal Gear Solid 1-3 collection…with the Twin Snakes (Gamecube) version of 1, and the Substance and Subsistence versions of 2 and 3 respectively. Give me those in re-textured HD with 3D support and I will die a happy man.
