Last year, THQ released a blockbuster of a title out of no where with UFC 2009. Leading up until the release of that game, the hype was always primarily around Fight Night Round 4, however, despite that hype, UFC 2009 ended up being the superior product and won over the crowd of millions.
Due to that success, THQ is releasing a yearly installment of the title and this year, that title will deliver exclusive content for the PlayStation 3 that is actually worth talking about. On top of the standard roster of fighters, Royce Gracie, Dan Severn and Jens Pulver will be playable exclusively on the PS3 version of the game. This is interesting because Graycie and Severn have not been on the active UFC roster for quite some time.
Furthering down the line of exclusive content, the PlayStation 3 version will also offer five more UFC matchups than its XBox competitors. Those UFC lineups include UFN 18 – Carlos Condit vs. Martin Kampmann (Ultimate 2009), UFC 102 – Nate Marquardt vs. Demian Maia (Ultimate Knockout), UFC 60 – Matt Hughes vs. Royce Gracie (Ultimate Classic), UFC 66 – Keith Jardine vs. Forrest Griffin (Ultimate Classic), and UFC 68 – Martin Kampmann vs. Drew McFredries (Ultimate Submission).
It’s great to see that THQ is going to deliver more content to PlayStation 3 owners and we’ve sent out an email inquiring as to whether or not this has anything to do with the extra disc space provided through Blu-ray or not. We’ll keep you guys updated if anything comes back.
