Releasing a title like Dark Void this January is a risk on two levels. The first being that it’s going up against some critically acclaimed competition and the second being that a game like this hasn’t ever really been done before. So, if you’re a gamer looking for something new and something you may not have gotten your hands on yet, this is definitely something you should check out.
#1: 3D Dot Game Heroes

I’m well aware that most PlayStation 3 owners know what this game is and that it has already released in Japan and is awaiting its North American release this year. However, 3D Dot Game Heroes is the type of game that the vast majority of mainstream players will overlook, but the old school Zelda lovers will be taken aback by for passing up or for picking it up. Game Heroes is a revolutionary title for the PlayStation 3, not for what it’s offering, but for what it’s openly uncaring of what it isn’t offering gamers.
Do you care how many polygons or facial expressions your character has? Then this game probably isn’t for you. Do you care about seeing amazing action sequences to keep your ADD in check? Once again – this probably isn’t for you. Are you a fan of old school gaming with a great twist and love the idea of it coming back? Then 3D Dot Game Heroes is something you’re going to enjoy immensely. I understand that this title isn’t under a rock for most gamers since we’ve covered various stories on it, but I have a strong feeling that it is going to receive very poor sales due to the way it is developed. That’s a shame.
3D Dot Game Heroes follows a customized hero on his way to vanquish the evil forces looming over its Kingdom. It’s an old tale with a great new visual twist and pays homage to the Legend of Zelda and past games on the original NES.
Anyway, this wraps up our eight games you need to keep an eye on for 2010. If there is anything you think we missed, feel free to mention it in the comment section below. We’d love to know what you would change or add.
Two Worlds II? I have a feeling that this game will be as bad as the first.
im actually excited for 3d dot hero and brink they seem like pretty original titles, and because brink is multi plat im pretty sure it’ll sell well on the ps3. Hopefully because an 8 man co-op sounds nice.
can’t wait for Brink
Good list. I’m really looking forward to Split/Second, Brink and 3D Dot Game Heroes. The rest I’ll probably rent or something.
im actually really excitedfor 3D dot game heroes
I’m excited for a lot of those games, Brink in particular. We’ll be having a chat with someone working on the game on the PS Chat Podcast a little later in the year…
Darkvoid looks good. I haven’t played the demo yet. I’m interested in Just Cause 2 even though I never played the first one.
Good list. I think Brink might be the biggest underdog
Blur . . . an original IP done by Activision?
Boy, I can’t wait for Blur 5, 6, and Van Halen.
For whom was Batman: Arkham Asylum an “underdog”, Dark Void is Capcom’s lead horse for this year so that’s not really a sleeper…Here on PSU people are looking forward to 3D Dot Game Heroes just as much as Mod Nation Racers and Singularity was featured by Game Informer last year (so I guess it could be considered sleeper status given the timeline)
@MrMustBNice
Who expected a superhero game to be Game of they Year caliber like Batman: Arkham Asylum was? I’m pretty sure nobody did. How many superhero games before it were even respectable? None? Arkham Asylum redefined the entire superhero genre in the industry, IMO.
You don’t think Lost Planet 2 is the lead horse for Capcom this year? You’re crazy if you think their lead horse is an unproven IP that hasn’t even hit retail shelves yet. Lost Planet is the marquee title in Capcom’s lineup next to Monster Hunter for the Wii 😉
@The Dean
True that Batman Arkham Asylum raised the bar to then unimaginable heights, but after playing the campaign demo, I knew it was an absolute hit.
By “Lead Horse” I didn’t mean it as in saying that Dark Void is Capcom’s headliner for this year, just the first and only one out of the gate for a few months. So, they are able to focus their promotion on that single game. In recollection though, despite it’s promotion status, it’s not getting featured by too many outlets. I guess, it is an underdog then.
I’m really anticipating 3D Dot Game Heroes.
Too bad that game doesn’t come out Until May.
i am think that Blur will beat split/second
