Despite the fact that Polyphony Digital exposed the lazy reviewer performances of sites like IGN with its damage model being unlocked through experience, Kaz Yamauchi has revealed plans to tweak the damage modeling in an upcoming patch. In stead of making the damage component based on experience previously gained within the game, it will now become a standard option to choose from from the get go. This change should silence a lot of the game’s critics who found it odd to work the other way around.
Speaking on Twitter to a myriad of fan questions, Yamauchi had the following to say:
‘Mechanical damage options will be implemented in a new update for GT5 coming “early December”.”
While this change was something a lot of users asked to be implemented, I may actually believe that the tiered model was much more suitable to how the game charges gamers to fix their vehicles. Considering you start the game out with a low dose of money, it’s going to be quite difficult to repair your car if it costs 100,000CR to do so.
Regardless, Gran Turismo 5 has been nothing shy of a gem and despite some small nitpicking here or there, the simulation racer is still hitting a home run with long time fans of the franchise.
