Voxatron; the retro shooter of 2011

After the success of the retro, Zelda-like 3D Dot Game Heroes that won gamers across the gaming spectrum over, Lexaloffle Games wants in on the retro action with Voxatron. Essentially, Voxatron carries the same style as 3D Dot Game Heroes, but applies it to the old school shooter world. Gamers might be reminded of old school hits such as Smash TV or Robotron 2084. Never fear, Voxatron didn’t forget the essential component of old school shooters: the score board. And yes, that’s made of voxels too.

The trailer below demonstrates a bit of Voxatron’s beauty, which gives the feel of both good and horrible graphics simultaneously.  Voxatron won’t be flaunting the capabilities of modern technology, but rather keeping things on a simpler scale.  Lexaloffle Games’ Joseph White is “unsure how major the implications of destructibility will be for gameplay, but it sure is fun to blast away pieces of wall. I’ve also added an experimental wall-building pickup you can use to construct barriers to hide from scary monsters.”

Voxatron will become available this Fall for the PC and Mac, as well as something else Lexalwoffle is taunting us with. At the end of the trailer, you see “PC / Mac / +”.  The ‘+’ clearly indicates another device to which the game will be available, and hopefully that means it’ll be reaching the console world like its counterpart; 3D Dot Game Heroes.

Now, feast your eyes on this preview of retro shooter Voxatron:
